Mumbai: In anticipation of its first electric vehicle (EV) launch, Maruti Suzuki India has unveiled an ambitious plan to set up approximately 25,000 charging points across India. The company is preparing to launch the Concept eVX, a midsize SUV, in January 2025, marking its debut in the rapidly growing EV segment.
Preparing for the eVX Launch
The eVX was first introduced as a concept at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida last year, and the production-ready version will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. Over the last 18 months, Maruti has been refining the concept into a near-production version, most recently displayed at the Indonesian Auto Show.
Building a Charging Network from Scratch
Since eVX is Maruti’s first foray into electric mobility, the carmaker is actively developing a charging infrastructure. To achieve this, Maruti is leveraging its extensive network, which includes over 5,100 service centers across 2,300 cities. It is also collaborating with oil marketing companies (OMCs) and energy firms to establish a robust EV ecosystem.
Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki emphasized that these efforts aim to ease customer concerns and provide strong after-sales support for EV ownership.
By integrating its existing network and partnering with key energy players, Maruti aims to address the major challenge of charging infrastructure, which has hindered the broader adoption of EVs in India.
Conclusion
With this forward-looking plan, Maruti is positioning itself to lead the EV revolution in India, ensuring that its first electric car, the eVX, is well-supported by a solid charging infrastructure when it hits the roads in 2025.
